The objectives of Just Start Riding! are to increase fitness levels and self esteem, to do something positive for the environment, and to have fun. Riders can to set personal goals for bike riding, fitness and desired weight loss, while saving money and doing their part for the environment.
The Just Start Riding! Program is targeted towards people who don't customarily ride bikes, with a significant focus on big people. "Biking is an excellent, fun activity for large people," states Denizot. "We want to encourage people who usually don't join bike month activities to take on a manageable, private goal of 10 miles a week (or something appropriately suited to each individual)." The program begins during the month of May and goes through October.
"We're starting with our local Vermont community and our online community," says President and Founder Joan Denizot. "We hope to grow this summer challenge each year so that in 10 years all 50 states will have large numbers of participants connecting, riding together, making friends, and improving their health."
Participants will register online at www.SuperSizedCycles.com/JustStartRiding. A buddy system will be set up so that those who wish can meet other registered riders from their geographical area. Everyone who registers will be supported through online activities. Recognition and prizes will be available to all registered bike riders.
"The idea," Denizot says, "Is to have people experience and re-experience the joys of riding a bike no matter what size you are!"
Super Sized Cycles is on the web at http://www.SuperSizedCycles.com, and they will be holding a Press Conference on Just Start Riding! on May 13th at the Trailside Center of Local Motion, greater Burlington, Vermont's Center for outdoor enthusiasts.
